Музей історії розвитку рибної промисловості Півдня України засновано у 1972 році Олександром Васильовичем Буряченко - моряком, який багато років очолював рибну галузь Криму, потім Севастопольське управління океанічного рибальства. 

1981 р. музей отримав постійну адресу в Будинку культури рибалок (нині - Український культурно-інформаційний центр у м. Севастополі), а 1982 р. йому було присвоєно звання “Народний”. 
Музей має дві зали загальною площею 157 кв. метрів, методичний кабінет, два фондосховища. Музей налічує більше 8 тисяч одиниць зберігання, з яких в експозиції представлено біля 600. 
У першій залі показані основні етапи розвитку рибальства за два тисячоліття: від древнього Херсонесу до сьогоднішнього дня. Це знаряддя лову - середньовічні крючки, древні грузмла, сіті, макети риболовецьких суден від чотирьохвеслової байди до плаваючого консервного заводу, фотографії, документи, особисті речі моряків. 

Морською тематикою визначене оформлення залу: під стелею натягнутий трал, альбатроси, внизу моря: черепаха, акули, марлін. Доповнюють експозицію  діорама “Морське дно” і куточок з екзотичними представниками морської фауни - пінгвінами, буревісником, електричним скатом, величезною акулою-лисицею і т.ін. 
Друга зала присвячена окремим проблемам розвитку рибного господарства: це професійне навчання і кадри, екологія, роль науки. 

В період перебудови економіки і переоцінки цінностей музею необхідна кардинальна реекспозиція. 
З 1996 р. музей фінансується тільки Українським культурно-інформаційним центром, його утримання обходиться в 5, 5 тис. гривень на рік. Відомчі підприємства рибної галузі участі у фінансуванні музею не беруть. Це не дозволяє у повній мірі реалізувати всі функції музею.

    The Museum of Historical Development of South Ukraine Fishing Industry

The Museum of Historical Development of South Ukraine Fishing Industry was founded in 1972 by Alexander Vasilievitch Buryachenko, who came from a family of fishermen. He was at the head of the fishing industry of Crimea, then Sevastopol Department of Oceanic Fishery for many years on end. 

In 1981 the Museum was placed in the Palace of Fishermen Culture (presently the Ukrainian Culture-Information Centre). In 1982 it received the name ”The People”s Museum”. There are 2 halls (total square 157 sq.m), a methodical room and 2 fund depositaries, and approximately 600 units are at 
the exhibition at this moment. The main stages of rishing industry development within 2000 years (from antique Chersones to present time) are showing in the first hall. There are fishing gears, models of different fishing vessels, photos, documents, personal possesions of fishermen at the display. The design of the hall is determined by marine themes: there are models of fishing trawls and nets, different stuffed flying seagulls, shearwaters and albatrosses, a lot of hydrobionts - turtles, sharks, 
marlins, crabs, molluscs ... 

The diorama ”Sea bottom” is an exposition of different exotic marine fauna:  pinquines, storm petrels, electric rays and enormous shark by title ”Fox”. This diorama supplement the display of the first hall. The second hall is devoted to some problems of fishing industry: professional studies, personnel, ecology, science and etc. 

In this period economical reconstruction of Ukraine and reapraisal if ideological and cultural wealth of the Ukrainian people, the Museum stands in need of fundamental changes. From 1996 the Museum has been finances only by the Ukrainian Culture-Information Centre, and its maintenance costs are 
estimated at about 5.500 grivnas per year. The departmental enterprises of Ukrainian fishing industry unfortunately don”t take part in the financing of the Museum. It doesn”t  help realize all functional possibilities of the Museum in its full volume. That”s why the Museum would accept the help and 
support in any form from the persons concerned with a great gratitude.
